There was a boat accident on the Bonny Port Harcourt route yesterday where seven people, including children, lost their lives.
Reports say the incident occured at about 4pm, and individual sources believe the wind may have caused the mishap.
Even though the number of the passengers on board has not been ascertained, it is believed that not everyone has been accounted for.
Members of the community used the moment to plead with the government to build a bridge to reduce these occurrences. One Mr Anderson Ama from the community said:
We believe that if we have a bridge linking Bonny and Bodo, all these risks of boat mishap, sea pirates’ attacks and other criminal activities will reduce.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni,(DSP) said he did not have details of the casualties as at yesterday.
