Reading Time: 4 minutes
Driving down Aba Road and taking in the scenery of the hustle and bustle at Garrison…I really need to get to the Spa quickly. “He had all the big women of PH City at his beck and call.” I am so tired and cranky, I need to soak my feet and get a massage and use the sauna…oh bother! Traffic at waterlines. It looks like I will be here a while… I hope I can make it back on time to fix dinner for Lanre. Lanre…hmmm I remember what life used to be like before we got married….
When I met Lanre, he was a gigolo. He had all the big women of PH City at his beck and call. He was there once their husbands went offshore for two weeks to 4 weeks; to take care of their physical needs. He was also into big contracts from these oil companies – with assistance from these women. I had gone grocery shopping that Saturday when I noticed the cutest guy with a heavily bleached out skinned older woman. He winked at me and I smiled back. The woman caught sight of me and sneered; I was taken aback. I hurriedly left that department but few minutes later, a trolley boy gave me a complimentary card. I didn’t need to ask, his wink had gotten my attention.
At thirty three, I don’t consider myself the hottest chic on the block so I warm up to any attention I get. I called him and we got together and our love story blossomed. He told me about his sexcapades with married women but told me it had stopped because of me. My friends Toyin, Amara and Sally wanted to meet him but I wanted to be perfectly sure he was the one, besides Lanre is too hot to flaunt before my desperate friends.
Finally the traffic eases out…
As I speed towards the spa, I smile bitterly; all that glitters isn’t gold. I have never enjoyed my marriage with Lanre. He barely spends time at home. I wonder where all the fire he had for me went to. Sex has become a routine – its almost as if he cant wait to get off me. I believe strongly he is still a gigolo. His phones have passwords and always on silent mode. Well so long as the money keeps coming in, he should just protect himself and by extension me – from STDs. He still spoils me silly with all the gifts. I don’t lack anything physical. Sometimes I need someone to talk to but I can’t tell my friends; they might feel sorry for me. I’d rather they keep envying my status – after all its not easy to be Mrs.
Finally, the spa 🙂
My face lights up as I pull over; he is here also:-) My Mr charming, My sweet potato, My yummy honey, Tonye. I never miss our weekly rendevous at the spa. He is married too but here in our world we are single.
I started seeing Tonye 2 months after I got married. He is everything I want in a man. I guess it’s not adultery – after all we are both married. Though we have to pay extra to make our time here exclusive, its worth it. Port Harcourt is too small to be visiting hotels. I take off my rings and put them in my glove compartment, little more gloss to the lips, I pick my phone and dial Lanre..
Lanre: “Hello Phoenix.”
Phoenix: “Hello dear, am at d spa, might not be taking your calls during my manicure, erm is that Sally I hear in the background?”
Lanre: “Yes, I have a flat tyre and she does too. Bumped into her here at the vulcanizer’s.”
Phoenix: “Say hi to her. Later dear.”
Lanre: “Okay, enjoy. See you later.”
Hmmm, this is the second Sally/Lanre coincidence….Am i missing something? Anyways, time to go in the hot sauna with my Tonye, I am too young to be in a boring marriage. A tap on my window, I look up, my heart beats faster…Tonye is a masterpiece. I smile as I get out the car..Life is too short to go through it depressed.
